Scotland, batting first, posted a massive 369/9 in 50 overs. Netherlands chased down the target with four balls to spare, winning by four wickets. The match saw a total of 743 runs, with 26 sixes and 58 boundaries, turning it into a batting spectacle for cricket fans.
At Fort Hill, Scotland’s George Munsey led with a brilliant 191 off 150 balls, including 14 fours and 11 sixes, breaking the record for the highest ODI score by an Associate nation player, previously set by Ireland’s Paul Stirling (177 vs. Canada in 2010). Munsey fell just short of the first double century by an Associate player, getting out with 10 balls left. Scotland’s captain and wicketkeeper Matthew Cross also shone with 59 runs. For Netherlands, Aryan Dutt and Michael Levitt took two wickets each.
Netherlands’ chase was led by opener Max O’Dowd, who scored 158 off 130 balls with 12 fours and four sixes. Michael Levitt added 40, Teja Nidamanuru scored 51, and Noah Croes’ explosive 50 off 29 balls sealed the thrilling victory in 49.2 overs. This chase ranks among the best in ODI history.
The highest successful chase remains South Africa’s 435 against Australia in the famous 2006 Johannesburg ODI, achieved with one wicket and one ball remaining. Australia scored 434/4, led by Ricky Ponting’s 164 off 105 balls, with contributions from Adam Gilchrist (55), Simon Katich (79), and Mike Hussey (81). South Africa’s reply was powered by Herschelle Gibbs’ 175 off 111 balls, supported by Graeme Smith (90 off 55), Mark Boucher (50), and Johan van der Wath (35 off 18). South Africa also holds the second-highest chase, overtaking Australia’s 372 in 2016, with centuries from David Miller and David Warner, and a half-century from Quinton de Kock.
